RBC Heritage Golf Tournament-Get Your Plaid On!

Hilton Head Island has been home to one of golf’s greatest traditions for 43 years and we are happy to say that the tradition continues!   Tickets are on sale now for South Carolina’s only PGA TOUR and it is back to its traditional spot – the week after the Masters – April 9-15, 2012.  The Royal Bank of Canada, along with Boeing has signed on to be the title sponsor of the newly named RBC Heritage through 2016.

Hilton Head Seafood Festival

This year’s Hilton Head Seafood Festival will be sponsored by the David M. Carmines Memorial Foundation and will take place on April 28th, 2012 from 11:00am – 5:00pm at the Shelter Cove Community Park.

Admission is $5 for adults (12 and under are free).  All proceeds from this event will benefit the American Cancer Society, the M.D. Anderson Cancer Research Center, and the Island Recreation Scholarship Fund.

This year’s festival will feature over a dozen island restaurants including The Chart House, Wreck of the Salty Dog, the Crazy Crab, Steamers, and many others.  Six local chef’s will also compete in the island’s version of “Iron Chef.”  Come out and enjoy some fresh local seafood served up by some of Hilton Head’s premier restaurants.

Kiwanis Rib Burnoff

The Kiwanis Rib Burnoff invites locals and visitors to come and taste some of the best slow cooked ribs and pulled pork anywhere.  Cooking starts the night before as restaurants and gifted amateurs compete for this year’s trophy.  Fun for the whole family.  There will be inflatable rides and slides for children and live music.

Tickets are $12 is advance (children 12 and under are admitted free) and will go on sale in late April.  They can be purchased at Burke’s Pharmacy, The Coastal Discovery Museum, and User  Friendly.

When:  May 19, 2012 at Honey Horn Plantation beginning at 8am.

Lowcountry Reptiles & Amphibians

Join the Coastal Discovery Museum as they welcome Tony Mills, The Education Director for the LowCountry Institute.  Mr. Mills will cover the natural history of many of the reptiles and amphibians commonly found in the LowCountry.  This will be an up close and personal session with the fascinating cold blooded animals.

When:  Wednesday, March 30, 2012 from 3:00pm – 4:00pm

Where:  The Coastal Discovery Museum (70 Honey Horn Drive)

Sea Turtle Talk and Beach Walk (Tuesdays & Thursdays only)

When:  Every Tuesday and Thursday beginning June 5, 2012 – August 30, 2012

Time:  8:00pm – 10:00pm

An evening lecture and beach walk, with staff from the Coastal Discovery Museum, to educate participants about the threatened loggerhead sea turtle. Presentation given to entire group, then 2 groups of 10 proceed to the beach to examine the nesting habitat and nest sites.

Hilton Head Celebrity Golf Tournament

Where the stars come out to “PLAY!”  This annual event teams celebrities with amateur golfers for a three day event filled with laughs and “golf.”  Played at three courses:  The Robert Trent Jones Course in Palmetto Dunes on August 31, the Pete Dye Course at Colleton River on September 1, and ending at the Harbour Town Golf Links on September 2.

Since 1979, this event has raised more than $3.8 million dollars to help support some of Hilton Head’s children’s charities.  Come out and support this wonderful cause.

Italian Heritage Festival

Join the Island Recreation Center at Shelter Cove Community Park on Saturday, September 22, 2012 from 11:00am to 4:00pm for a “grape stomping” good time.  There will be a silent auction, an Italian car show, a spaghetti eating contest, a kid zone, plenty of wonderful tasting Italian food, and so much more.

Steamed, Stewed, and Fried Oysters!!
