Things to Do for Kids on Hilton Head Island

kid1Hilton Head Island is a family and kid friendly island with many activities for all ages.  Bring the whole family to South Carolina and enjoy our vacation rentals’ ideal location to all of the fun activities and adventures Hilton Head Island has to offer. The island is well known for its mix and variety of organized activities for children of all ages. Enjoy them as a group, or drop the kids off for a few hours while you enjoy the day with your spouse or significant other – many of the activities are supervised by professional staff and allow you the freedom to enjoy a little “kid free” time.  See below for a list of some of the area’s activities.

The Sandbox
This is a hands-on interactive museum filled with unique entertaining, and educational play areas to explore.  Children can sail away on Captain William Hilton’s ship of discovery or find their passport to the World in the international airport terminal with a plane ready for little pilots to fly.  Located on Pope Avenue (between Sea Pines main gate and Forest Beach). Island Playground
A HUGE indoor playground features inflatable fun and creative play for kids. Imaginative adventures await in our comfortable, clean and safe play areas.   Located on Highway 278 in Bluffton, just past the Hilton Head Island bridge.  All ages welcome.  Call (843) 837-8383.

Adventure Cove
This is a family entertainment center offering 36 holes of miniature golf and an arcade. Located on 278 near mile marker 6.  Call 843-842-9990.

Art Academy of Hilton Head ALL AGES
This art studio, run by The Hilton Head Art League, offers both adult and children’s art classes. Call (843) 842-5738 for class information & registration.  A gallery with featured artists is open Monday – Saturday, (843) 681- 5060

Art Café
Select and paint your own pottery, great activity for a rainy day. Located in Coligny Plaza. Call (843) 785-5525 for more information.

Bristol Sports Arena
Public skate park with ramps for skateboarding.  (Children must be supervised by an adult and wear appropriate protective gear.)  Basketball and roller hockey rink and playground are also available.  Open daily sunrise to sunset. (facilites are sometimes restricted for special events). Located on the corner of Arrow Road and Hellsman Way (off Palmetto Bay Road)

Coastal Discovery Museum
The museum offers several indoor & outdoor exhibits, activity centers, a museum store and 11 different tours & cruises around the island.  Located on Hwy 278 near the Hilton Head Island bridge.  Call (843) 689-6767

Fun for Kids! (Memorial Day through Labor Day) AGES 4-12
Gregg Russell directs this nationally acclaimed program with activities such as: field trips, weekly dolphin cruises, arts and crafts, scavenger hunts, bowling and more.  Call (843) 671-3590 (Reservations are limited)

Greg Russell Family Concerts (Memorial Day through Labor Day)
Friday through Sunday, Gregg Russell, a Hilton Head tradition for over 24 years, sings under the Liberty Oak in Harbour Town. All ages are welcome, geared towards younger children.  Call (843) 671-3590 for more information.

Kids Summer Entertainment

Lawton Stables
Offers an animal petting area (free to everyone) and western style trail rides (ages 8 & up) through the 605 acre Sea Pines Forest Preserve as well as riding lessons.  Call 843-671-2586 for information & reservations.

Shannon Tanner Children’s Concerts
Has been performing family shows for over 21 years in Shelter Cove Harbour.  Concerts are Monday through Friday (two shows per evening) April – August.  Call (843) 422-4270 for information.

Island Recreation Center
The Hilton Head Island Recreation Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for all area residents.
