What to on Hilton Head in the Winter

Attend an Oyster Roast

The winter months are prime oyster season down South, so if you’re visiting Hilton Head in the winter, you should definitely plan to make it to one of these events. Each February, the island hosts the annual Hilton Head Island Seafood Festival. This is the best event to experience both the seafood and barbecue side of Southern cuisine. But, if you’re headed to the area during a different month, you’ll still find plenty of oyster-related events to attend.

Book a Tee Time at One of the Golf Courses

Golfing is likely the top sport practiced on Hilton Head Island. Many of the locations in the area are championship courses and offer players of all experience levels a way to challenge their skills. Even in the winter, the weather is mild enough to spend the day teeing off. Each course uniquely incorporates the landscape allowing for views of the water and marshland that Hilton Head is known for. Book your tee time in advance for the chance to play on some of the best golf courses on Hilton Head Island.

Explore the Lagoon

Kayaking may not sound like a cold-weather activity, but when it’s winter on Hilton Head, you can throw on a light jacket and get out on the water during a sunny afternoon. The lagoon system is 11 miles long and winds through the Lowcountry landscape taking you past marshes and dune zones. Rent a kayak from Hilton Head Outfitters to witness the natural landscape and local wildlife.
