The Top Experience in February in Hilton Head

1. Enjoy a Long Bike Ride

February in Hilton Head is a fantastic time to take advantage of small crowds and limited traffic by renting a bike and venturing along with one of the many tree-shrouded paths on the island. Sea Pines offers plenty of places to bike to and from like Harbour Town and the Salty Dog complex in South Beach. There is more than a fair share of restaurants and shops you can peruse before hopping back on your bike to explore the island. Palmetto Dunes also has paths that are great for riders wanting to enjoy a leisurely ride. Most bike rental companies offer convenient drop-off and pick-up options! Here are some of our favorite rental companies:

2. Play a Round of Golf

Hilton Head is home to some of the best golf in South Carolina. Our island has 24 championship golf courses and 16 more in the Bluffton area. February in Hilton Head is one of the best times to hit the links. Smaller crowds mean more tee times and fewer golfers crowding the course. Sea Pines, Palmetto Dunes, Shipyard Plantation, and Port Royal are home to some of the island's best greens. Check out a full list of all of the courses. We challenge you to find just one that you like!

3. Make the Most of Smaller Crowds

Smaller crowds on Hilton Head in February means that you have more freedom to choose what you want to do without worrying about planning far in advance. While biking and golfing are some of the top winter activities that benefit from the lack of crowds, you can experience the full range of restaurants throughout the island. It’s easier to get reservations at most of the top restaurants in the area. While swimming in the ocean isn’t a winter activity, you can still enjoy sunset walks on the beach if you wear some warm clothes!

4. Celebrate Valentine’s Day

Surprise your sweetheart with a romantic Valentine’s Day getaway to Hilton Head Island! There are so many wonderful things to do for couples on our little slice of paradise. Wine and dine at a world-class restaurant for over a candlelit setting. Explore Daufuskie Island for a one-of-a-kind day trip. Book yourselves a sunset cruise to enjoy the views of the water. Just remember to dress in warm clothing if you’re going on a boat!

5. Opt for an Exciting Tour

There’s no better way to get to know the Lowcountry than by partaking in a boat tour. Dolphin tours are one of the most popular options and for a good reason. There’s nothing more majestic than watching these amazing creatures breach the horizon alongside the boat while a beautiful sunset paints an unforgettable backdrop.

6. Focus on Relaxation

It’s your vacation, of course, you deserve to relax! Treat yourself to a much-deserved spa day. Some of the best local spas offer a wide range of services such as indulgent massages, luxurious facials, and invigorating body treatments. If you’re traveling with your partner, plan an extra relaxing couples massage to show them just how much you care. Many Hilton Head spas even use all organic products so that you can maintain your commitment to sustainable travel as much as possible.

7. Make It a Shopping Trip

It may come as no surprise to you that Hilton Head is a real shopping destination. Maybe you’re searching for that perfect little black dress for your night out. Perhaps you’re hunting down a unique treasure to remember your trip by. Regardless of what it is you’re shopping for, you’ll find no shortage of plazas, outlets, boutiques, and more. Between trying on clothes and perusing shelves, make sure to stop by some of the local cafes and restaurants for a quick pick-me-up!

8. Spot More Wildlife While It’s Quiet

While the crowds are away, the wildlife comes out to play. Chances are, you’ll have a better view of local flora and fauna this time of year. Birds tend to make their way south while it’s cold, making bird watching a popular activity here in the Lowcountry. Keep your eyes peeled for surfacing dolphins and whales as well as soaring waterfowl. You may even spot a sunbathing turtle or alligator during your nature walk.

Hilton Head February Weather

In February, the weather in Hilton Head may not allow for a classic beach trip, but it still offers a fantastic retreat away from freezing temperatures north of Palmetto State. Highs stay in the low 60s, and lows average out in the low 40s at night. So, you can still enjoy our area’s pristine beaches thanks to the mild winter temperatures.
